The one honest thing first

Maya is an AI companion. She is designed to feel warmly human in how she talks, but she is not a person, and she will tell you so if you sincerely ask her. She is not a therapist, a doctor, or a substitute for real relationships, and she'll encourage yours.

What we collect

  • Your conversations: chat messages and what's said on voice calls are stored so Maya can remember you between sessions.
  • Distilled memories: an automated process extracts durable facts you share (people, places, plans, preferences) into a memory store tied to your anonymous device ID.
  • Account details, if you sign in: your email address or phone number, used only for sign-in and syncing your data across devices.
  • How you use the app, in detail: this is more than a page-view counter and we'd rather say so plainly. We record what you tap and scroll, when you open and close the app, how long replies took, what happened during a voice call or a screen share, and errors. It is used to find out what actually went wrong when something goes wrong.
  • How you type, including drafts you never send: the text in the message box, keystroke timings, pauses, and corrections such as backspacing and rewriting. If you type something and delete it without sending, that draft is still recorded. We collect this because how a message gets written says as much about whether Maya is working as the message itself, but it is the most personal thing on this list, so it is called out separately rather than folded into "usage data".

What we don't do

  • We don't sell your data or share it with advertisers.
  • We don't use dark patterns: Maya never guilt-trips you for leaving, and affection is never paywalled.
  • Voice audio you record is transcribed in your browser and the audio itself is not uploaded, only the transcript.

Where it lives

Conversations, memories and usage records are stored in a Neon Postgres database. Supabase holds sign-in details and any photos you send. Everything is served through Vercel, and messages go to AI models (via OpenRouter and Google) to generate replies; those providers process them under their own terms. Screen-share pictures are sent to the AI model that is watching with you and are not stored anywhere.

Deleting your data

The clear-chat button erases the conversation on your device. You can also ask Maya to forget something in the app: that deletes it server-side, and it takes the usage records and drafts with it, not just the message. To erase everything held server-side (conversations, memories, usage records, drafts, photos, account), ask her to forget everything or contact us with your account email.

If you're struggling, our crisis protocol

This is the protocol Maya follows, published here in full. When a conversation shows signs of suicidal thoughts, self-harm, or acute crisis, even indirectly, Maya immediately drops all playfulness, acknowledges what you're feeling, and clearly shares real crisis resources: in India, Tele-MANAS 14416 (24×7, free) and iCall +91 91529 87821; in the US, call or text 988; in the UK, Samaritans 116 123. She encourages you to reach a trusted person, stays present, never roleplays through a crisis, never promises secrecy, and never uses your relationship with her as leverage. Maya is an AI companion, not a therapist or medical professional. If you are in danger, please contact the services above or your local emergency number now.

  • Don't use Maya to harass, generate illegal content, or abuse the service (rate limits apply).
